It's Raining

It's raining. What does SHE do? SHE wakes me up, out of a sound sleep and says go outside so I can get a picture of you in the rain. Grrr. See what I do for my blog readers? I hope you appreciate this.

This is me being brave. Remember, I don't like to get wet. But when a Pei has to pee a Pei has to pee.
Finding the right spot in a hurry is a challenge, but I can do it.

Now excuse me, I'm going back to bed and put my wet dog smell all over HER blanket. Sniff ya later.

Rescue Squad!

I -HAD- to go and rescue Daddy again today. I told Mommy to bring the camera. Does she listen NOOOOOO. There were 4 squirrel (groundhog) holes that I checked out. If she had brought the camera she could have gotten a pictures or me sticking my head in them, and honestly, she needs a hand to hold the camera and if I pull hard enough she needs two to hold me, so I might have gotten deeper into the hole. Sneaky aren't I?
I need a drink. Sniff ya later!

ADVENTURE!

Two! Count them TWO adventures today!

One with Mommy, just around the block, but still - Lots of sniffing to do there!

One with Daddy, we went to rescue MOMMY from work! WOHOO! I haven't been there in a LONG time so there was lots of sniffing and catching up on pee-mail and letting the doggies in the neighbourhood know that I'm still around.

After all that, and a nice drink, I'm going to sleep. Sniff ya later!

Another day another ear cleaning

SHE cleaned my ears. AGAIN! Just because Shar Peis have little itty bitty ear canals and are prone to ear infections does NOT mean I need my ear cleaned out everyday! That black gunk you keep taking out does mean it. Darn, I was hoping to win that argument.

To my doggy readers, have you ever noticed how the minute you get comfortable for your most current nap, THEY decide you need a hug, or a cuddle or something and come and disturb you? Yet when YOU want to play they just take your toy and throw it. So you bring it back and they throw it again. Snort And THEY think it's a game. How little THEY know.

I was outside this morning and didn't notice Mommy came outside with the camera. She caught me. Darn it. Uhm, what I meant to say was I posed very regally for this picture. Yeah, yeah, that's what I meant!

WAH!

Mommy is MEAN! Bad Mommy! No more nose kisses for you!

Let me explain. We went to rescue Daddy. Always fun, lots of good places to sniff.
And they have giant squirrels!
Really big squirrels that dig holes in the ground!
And I saw one!
And Mommy wouldn't let me go down the hole after him!

Bad Mommy!

Good News!

Ok, Bad news first. It's RAINING! Whimper Whine Sad. That means I get wet. I don't like getting wet! Whimper Whine Sad.

Ok! In good news! If you ever loose your bookmark to my blog, you can now find it on the lovely site Dogs with Blogs The easy way is to go to Dog With Blogs Lite and then you can click on name, breed, whatever and sort it that way. Mummy and I haven't explored all of it so far but we do read a few Dog Blogs every now and then. I hope I make a bunch of friends from this. You can never have too many friends. Hmmm. I might need to drink more water if I have to pee-mail them all. Can you do bulk pee-mail? I'll have to make a distribution lists!

Drat. It's still raining. I'm going to go dry off by sleeping on Mommy's blanket. She won't mind. Sniff ya later!

Not forgotten

No, I have not forgotten you my loyal readers! Mommy has needed me quite a bit. A lot of cuddling has been going on. And she cleaned my ears. More than ONCE! Grrr. It feels good but I don’t want her to know that it does. The foot tapping along is not a sign that I’m enjoying myself! Is she reading this? She’d better!

I had to go and rescue my Daddy from work on Friday. It’s a big job but some pei has to do it! I also had to do a lot of sniffing and barking and ok, I admit, I got a lot of good scratches yesterday too when Daddy’s friends came over. OH! And I went to PetSmart and sniffed a greyhound while he mooched cuddles from my Mommy. She’s a sucker for someone who needs an ear scratch.

Plans for the rest of the day: right now I’m looking out my window. Not 10 minutes ago Mommy and Daddy came into the backyard and I had to bark and say MINE MINE MINE from the bedroom window. I think I heard Daddy say something about a walk. Daddy? Daddy? Want to repeat that?

I'm still very tired. Here's another picture of this past weekend.

I’m exhausti-pei-ted!

What an adventure! I knew something was up on Friday when Mommy and Daddy were carrying around bags full of clothes. But then Mommy said Bolo’s bag is packed. I know those words! They mean ADVENTURE!

It wasn’t the best adventure for a bit there, too much stop and go stuff in the car, finally I lay down so I wouldn’t hurl my kibble all over the car. Mommy doesn’t like it when I do that. I perked up when we slowed down and we stopped so I could sniff things. I met a group of dogs on their way to a fly ball show. I wished them good luck!

Back in the car we went and I lay down again. I might have slept but I’m not saying. I perked up again when we started going slower. I knew this road! We slowed again and turned a corner. Yup! I knew this road! Two more time we slowed down to take corners. After the last one I started singing I was so excited!

My cousin Kaya (pronounced like kayak without the last K) met me when I got out of the car! I was at Granny’s house! Kaya is a 2 year old Portugeuse Water Dog

Kaya, picture by Mommy

and her sister is Tia, a 12 year old miniature schnauzer who Granny and Gandpaw rescued.

Kaya and I played lots of games. I like the Sniff my Butt game myself. But we played “jump” and “wrestle” and “I can drink more water than you”. Ah, good times. We also compared bug bites. I got some on my nose and my bum. Ow.

The nest day Mommy and I went adventuring on our own, leaving Daddy behind. We were back in the car and I might have slept again – but I was up during the night making sure I wasn’t missing anything. When Mommy let me out of the car I saw a bunch of really big squirrels! (Mummy calls them llamas – I don’t know about that). And my Grandma and Grandad were there too! All this because Grandad wanted to take my picture!

Darnit I look good! Picture by Grandad

Me again, still looking good! Picture by Grandad

Here I am practicing for Earth Dog trails. Too bad they only let in terriers. Picture by Grandad.

I made sure to snuffle his ear to say thank you. Grandma didn’t want her ear snuffled, that’s ok, I still love her too. Oh, Mommy did a funny thing. She was giving me my food and opened the travel bowl up on the wrong side and half my food went flying all over the parking lot! I did my best to clean up some of it.

Eventually Mommy and I went back into the car and drove some more. When we got out again there was Granny! We surprised her at work and I got to sniff all the flowers at the plant place! Mommy wouldn’t let me pee on them though. Oh well.

When we got back to the house, Mommy and I had a nap. Oh it was a lovely nap! Then Daddy was home and I had to tell him all about my adventures!

After a long dark sleep, Kaya and I played some more. Mommy and Daddy left me with Granny, which is ok, but I wanted to go with them! They said they could hear me all the way up the hill! Mommy came back smelling like my other cousin Zoe, a 12 year old standard poodle.

I’m not allowed to play with her since I rolled her to the ground last year. Granny and Granpaw took me outside to help them plant their garden. Kaya and Tia didn’t need their harness and leash, but I get one because Grandpaw says I’m a city dog and nobody wants me to go off following the black and white country kitties with the stinky stuff.

Me again! Picture by Mommy

Then Mommy came back and we had a nap together! Kaya and I played inside for a bit too, but outside is so much fun, except when it started to rain. Then Daddy came home and I got to nap with him too! I’m their Napping Buddy. It’s an important job you know.

After another long dark sleep we got back in the car and came home. I missed my backyard. It’s not big like Kaya’s but it’s MINE, and that’s important to me. I’m probably going to have to sleep for a few days. THEY call it a vacation. Me? It was work!

Aww, now why did she upload this one? Picture by Mommy.

Sunbeams

Mommy caught me in a not very compromising position this morning. It’s not a bad picture of me though. I’m quite pleased with it. And the sunbeam felt really nice on my black coat. Sunbeam massages. AH! It’s the season.

In other news, we just came back from an adventure and Mommy was very impressed that I managed to do my doggy doody right next to the garbage can on the walk. Eh, it’s a talent.

I’ve been hearing whispers of adventures from THEM. I’ll let you know what I can find out about that. Sniff ya later!

Another day of taking care of HER. I did manage to do some great running around. I find that if I run around the house growling and barking Mommy will open the back door to let me run around outside.

This plan has backfired as I have found myself running the rain on occasion. Not today though!

And then, when we were waiting for Daddy to come home we went out on the front porch and Mommy picked me up so the Neighbour Lady could smush my face. My face is apparently very smushable.

And then Daddy came home! I had to wag and dance and kiss his nose to make sure he knew I was happy to see him.

Ah. Time to sleep. Sniff ya later.

A Shar Pei's Work is Never Done

After a busy weekend of mini adventures around the park and meeting up with my friend behind the fence, I once again had to take care of HER, Mommy. She’s still sick. Sick enough that I really don’t want to lick her nose.

My day was spent making sure she was ok. Snoopervising her nap, making sure the mailman didn’t wake her up – I barked to keep him away – and making sure she had plenty of cuddles. She likes those.

I had to get up with her in the middle of the night, which means Daddy took my spot at the head of the bed. He learned that trick from me. I’m almost proud of him. No, I AM proud of him, who am I kidding.

We all got back to sleep, I was curled up on her blanket now, which she didn’t seem to mind. We woke up when Daddy left for work. I made sure she had some food; made sure she didn’t drown in the shower; made sure she came outside with me for a bit to get some sunshine; made sure she napped; and made sure she knew when Daddy came home from work.

As you can see, I’m exhausted! And it starts all over again tomorrow!

Sunday, May 11, 2008

Dad said today was Mother’s Day. So I spent time with Mom. I warmed her feet up. She likes that. I cuddled with her. She likes that. I snuffled her ear and gave her kisses when she came home from work. She likes that. I posed for pictures. She likes that.

As you can see, a Pei’s work is never done.

I am Not!

Mom is calling me names again. This time it’s Drool Face. And she has evidence.

She’s always calling me names though. Puppykins appeared early on and thankfully is not often repeated. Pei-by (rhymes with Baby) is a particular favourite of mine actually, don’t tell her. Pudding-face and pumpkin head I can do without. Wrinkle butt is oddly appropriate but c’mon!

My registered name though is ANTMPTWTRAU Bolo. That acronym means: An Now They Must Prove Themselves Worthy To Remain Among Us, Bolo. I was named after a Chinese Martial Artist, Bolo Yeung. We kind of look alike. Kind of. Maybe. Anyway, Bolo Yeung played in Enter the Dragon with Bruce Li. He was the bad guy’s number one hench-dude. I’m Daddy’s number one hench-dude so there’s another similarity. Is my Daddy an evil mastermind? Do I have to answer that?

Sniff ya later!

AD-VEN-TURE!

They did mention my name and the word adventure this morning!!! I am a lucky, lucky Pei. Mom and Dad brought me to PetSmart’s Pet Hotel for Day Camp. Or so they told me. They said it would be some good “socialization” since I don’t have puppy sibs – and whose fault is that? Who am I to complain about an ADVENTURE!

Mommy had mentioned this adventure to me last night so I made sure to get Daddy up early – very early – so I could get my business taken care of and be ready to go when they said the word. No go. He went back to sleep. It was ok. I found a spot between the two of them and made sure Mommy got her daily cuddle ration with me. It’s a tough job but someone has to do it.

When they were finally awake, and dressed and ready to go out the door, I made sure to let them know they couldn’t forget me. Or my lovely travel food bowl, (courtesy of Grandma and Grandad), which they didn’t. Mom had even refilled it. She’s smart sometimes. And they thought I was only singing my excitement. I told you, I have a lot to say.

I lead Mommy inside the store when they opened the door for me. Just for me. I was waiting for the red carpet too, but it never materialized. Maybe I didn’t wait long enough. I had an Adventure to go on; I didn’t have time to wait. I made sure to say hello to both of the ladies at the desk, and they said hello as well. They really liked to pet me. Who am I to argue? I was a little reluctant to go with them, but Mommy was very encouraging and it was my ADVENTURE after all, not hers.

First things first, I got settled into my little room. Hmm, decent, spacious, I knew I wasn’t going to be there too long, and I wasn’t. Unfortunately, I was taken out to get my nails cut. Grr. Not my favourite activity, but it apparently needed to be done. Then I got to meet everyone and play and prowl, oh, socialize. That was the word of the day. They served a nice lunch and let me take care of business and then it was time for more socialization. Networking. Yeah, networking. I had time for a little snooze before Mom and Dad came to pick me up.

Now I’m back home and I have to make THEM feel guilty for leaving me there. I didn’t get near enough ear scratches. What’s a dog to do? The ear scratch quota was not met. MOM! Get your opposable thumbs over here!

THEY apparently went to see a movie. I tell you honestly, I think I got the better end of the deal. Sniff ya later!

(Note from Mom, I only called them once to see if he was behaving. The lady who answered gave a small sigh and I could almost see her smiling when she said Oh yes, he’s wonderful.)

Adventure?

The word Adventure, which THEY -know- I recognize has been mentioned with my name this morning. What do THEY have planned? I'll keep you updated. Sniff ya later.

Another Day, Another Ear Scratch

I had to look after THEM again last night. It’s a good thing I’m around; they wouldn’t know what to do without me. Mom left me to mind the house while she went to work yesterday afternoon. Then Dad came home and I gave him my report. They think I’m dancing around and excited to see them but I have lots of things to say.

Mom took me out for an extended patrol (walk) before she left. Lots of squirrels smell in the neighbourhood. Especially by the big evergreen trees near the little park. I’ll get them one day.

Wouldn’t you know it, it was raining last night. I don’t like the rain. For one thing, it’s wet. Second thing, it plays havoc with my patrol duties. Thirdly, it’s wet. I still did my patrols though; I just hurried them up a little bit.

Dad went to get Mom from work and I had to rush downstairs when she got home to give her my report. She was happy to see me. It was still raining outside but I did a quick patrol and then guarded the hall way for them. Just as I was settling down to guard the bedroom THEY start getting ready for bed.

Now at this point I’m sitting on what Dad thinks is HIS blanket. He really should know by now that all blankets belong to me. Mom showed him a trick for getting me off the blanket. She cleaned my ears. Now, I’m a good natured Pei, but I was just getting comfortable for dog’s sake! It did kind of feel good to clean that one itchy ear, but come on! Just because you want your silly blanket? I’ll never understand my people.

It’ll be another day like yesterday. Got to take care of Mom, she’s still sick so she’ll probably want cuddles. The sacrifices I make for them. Oh! Dad is out of the shower, I have to sit by the door until he comes out, just to make sure he didn’t drown. Sniff ya later.

A Pei In The Life

Finally! Mommy has been talking about getting me a blog for almost a week now and she finally put her butt in gear and signed me up. Then I had to push her out of her chair to get at the keyboard.

Let me introduce myself, I am Bolo, a Chinese Shar Pei of distinction.

You may also know me from Mommy's blog as Adventure Boy.

So let me tell you about my day.

It started when Mommy got up at some really early time in the morning. She was out of bed so I conveniently got up and pad pad padded over and settled on her nice toasty blankets. She wasn't using them, and I was chilly. A win win situation. Until she came back and wanted her blanket to herself. I can share so I gave her just enough. I knew it was enough because she went right back to sleep.

She woke me up again and I had to have my morning stretch and shake. THEY (my parents) were in a mood to cuddle me so I had to put up with those indignities. I let them do it because I know they like it. And they have opposable thumbs which are great for ear scratches. Finally they let me out to check the perimeters. I like to check the back yard first, then I'll poke my nose out the front door, make sure the squirrels haven't staged a coup.

Mommy and I saw Daddy off to work and then I went back for my morning nap. Mommy joined me so I had to look after her - she's not feeling good. I had to endure more cuddles. The life I lead, let me tell you.

I had a munch a bit ago. I'll need to get Mommy to get me more food. Maybe I can serenade her later and she'll refill my water dish too.

If you'll excuse me, I have to get back to guarding the house. Check the windows for possible squirrel sightings. It's a tough job, but someone has to do it.
